SUMMARY

This dialogue addressed the life and work of Bernard Tschumi, focusing particularly on the period from his teaching at the Architectural Association to his deanship at Columbia University. It traced the shifting ways in which Tschumi fashioned his architectural voice, moving from writer to political theorist, polemicist, conceptual artist, theoretical architect, educator and dean, and ultimately star architect. The dialogue situated Tschumi’s trajectory within its broader intellectual and discursive context and asked what role he played in mediating between architecture and French Theory and, in particular, in theorizing an architecture of the event.
