This dialogue examined the early work of Diller and Scofidio before the practice expanded into Diller Scofidio + Renfro, a global firm producing buildings around the world, in the mid-2000s. It explored their early interest in performance and architecture, their collaborations with theater companies and playwrights, their installation projects, and a creative practice that encompassed everything from arranging traffic cones to making videos, folding shirts, and designing buildings. In particular, the dialogue sought to understand how their work was “critical” and what critical work and critical architecture meant to them in the 1980s and 1990s.
