This dialogue focused on the relationship between architecture and solar energy. Examining notable research and experiments that developed in France and the United States in the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s, it reflected on notions such as passivity, low-tech, and autonomy. As global warming and the depletion of natural resources place renewed emphasis on alternative modes of energy production, the dialogue explored the various ways in which the question of the sun might not only help reduce architecture’s energy costs but also help us rethink more profoundly the role architecture can play in constructing the environment in which we live.
