Architecture Education in the Liberal Arts
Dialogue
SUMMARY
For many students in the United States, architectural education occurs within small programs in a liberal arts context. These programs generally reside within and depend on other departments. There is, in fact, a vast array of such programs, each shaped by its particular circumstances. This dialogue asked: What is the place of these programs in a broader historical tradition of architectural teaching? What novel pedagogical models do they allow for? What do they add, and what do they neglect, vis-à-vis other systems of architectural education around the world? And how do they shape architectural culture in the United States?
