The Texas Rangers
Dialogue
SUMMARY
This dialogue revisited the Texas Rangers, a group of architects and artists who taught at the University of Texas School of Architecture in the 1950s under Dean Harwell Hamilton Harris. The group included Colin Rowe, John Hejduk, Werner Seligmann, Bernhard Hoesli, Robert Slutzky, and Lee Hodgden. Together, they developed an experimental pedagogy that challenged prevailing norms and later shaped architectural education at Cornell, Cooper Union, and ETH Zurich. The dialogue reflected on the ideas and exchanges that defined this brief but influential moment, asking what conditions enabled its impact, what remains of its influence today, and what its legacy means for contemporary architectural pedagogy.
